Easy Ways to Take Care of Your Cruiser Motor

Maintenance is the most important thing you can do to ensure the safety and longevity of your motorcycle. Cycling is fun and thrilling but also very dangerous when done outside the guidelines. Close your manual and toolbox when inspecting your bike. Know what to check daily, weekly, monthly and yearly, and keep it routine.

Whenever you ride a bicycle, make sure you check the chain for any odd movements before riding. Make sure you lubricate it properly. Check your tires and that the tire pressure is right and balanced for both tires. If necessary, add pressure to avoid explosion. Most explosions occur not from scratches on the tread but from low tire pressure. Also check the oil and coolant levels before you drive. Also check the brake cables and make sure that the pads are the correct thickness. The items to check before riding each time may seem like a lot but once you get used to it, it will just be a quick and easy five minute check.

Make sure you clean it regularly. This makes it easy to find missing bolts, damaged items or places that need repair. Check your brakes at the end of the week to make sure when pressed, they are fully engaged. The wheels must be locked when the brakes are applied. Fine tune if not. After a good cleaning, lift each wheel and check that the wheels rotate smoothly without a sound. Check the rims for dents and for any missing or loose fingers.

Make it an annual routine to replace your spark plugs and air filter. Bleed the oil after 2000 miles to keep your engine running smoothly. If you can't reach 2000 miles after 2 years, change the oil. Old oil can cause your engine to sound which is more expensive to repair. You need to completely drain the brake fluid, coolant and fork oil at least every 2 years.

Cruiser motorcycle brands such as Indian Scout motorbikes may require a professional check at least once each year if you are not going to have an accident. If an accident occurs no matter how minor or you hear funny noises that you can't seem to get rid of, make sure to have your bike checked in a professional immediately. Regular preventive maintenance is important for keeping your bike in good condition for a long time.
